Dr. Vincent Ongore, a well-traveled global citizen, is a seasoned tax and corporate governance professional with over three decades of practical work in tax administration at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). At KRA, he served in various capacities in tax administration, Taxpayer Services and Partnerships, Research, Quality Assurance and Risk Management, Training, and Corporate Writing. He recently took voluntary early retirement from KRA as Chief Manager (formerly Deputy Commissioner) to pursue a career in consultancy and scholarship at the Technical University of Kenya where he currently works as a Senior Lecturer in Corporate Governance and Strategic Management in the School of Business ... During his time at KRA, Dr. Ongore held senior appointments including: founding Director ICPAK Centre for Public Finance and Tax; Trustee of KRA Staff Pension Scheme; Member of Research Committee of the African Tax Administration Forum (Pretoria, South Africa); and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the African Tax and Customs Review, a continental research publication for tax and customs professionals. Dr. Ongore has been a visiting scholar to a number of universities in Kenya, Europe and USA, including Kenya School of Monetary Studies, KCA, JKUAT, Moi, Muenster (Germany), Colorado Boulder and Daniel's College of Business, University of Denver, both in Colorado, USA. Dr. Ongore is a prolific researcher and writer whose publications profile comprises diverse areas of Finance, Corporate Governance, Ownership Structure, Capital Structure, Tax Administration, Strategic Business Transformation and Governance Models for Family Businesses. He is an author of 4 university level text books and several academic papers published in international refereed journals. In March 2015, he was named among the Top 100 Most Cited Scholars in Kenya (European Commission, Project Acumen). Dr. Ongore holds undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications in Business and Economics, and certifications in Finance and Investments (UAE), Strategic Leadership (ESAMI, Arusha, Tanzania), Project Management (Gammams Institute, Windhoek, Namibia), Trade Facilitation and Trainer-of- Trainers (World Customs Organization), and Curriculum Development (TVETA, Kenya). He holds a PhD (2008) in Corporate Governance from the School of Business, University of Nairobi. Irene Maithya is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Commissioner for Oaths. She has specialized in commercial law practice for a period of over 10 years. She uses her experience to train, harnessing her exceptional command of corporate governance legal principles to ensure delivery of quality services to our esteemed clients. She uses her expertise to advise Directors of Companies and with a focus on Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMES) on the best corporate governance practices and has conducted numerous legal audits She oversees the entrenchment of corporate governance structures by directors as set out in law. Irene holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Pretoria - South Africa, Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Moi University – Kenya and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She also holds a Post Graduate Certificate for Harvard University, U.S.A. Further, she is researching for her Doctoral (LL.D) studies at the University of Pretoria - South Africa. Additionally, Irene is a lecturer in law at Moi University School of Law.
Njeru Karuana is a seasoned banker currently practicing as a Corporate Governance Advisor. His current portfolio includes a large business group and several individual organizations within the Micro Financing sector. While working in a number of banks and financial institutions in Kenya he pioneered the use of credit cards especially those issued under the Visa franchise Njeru also served on the Visa Europe, Middle East and Africa Business Advisors Board for 5 years representing sub Saharan Africa in which time he got working attachments in many banks around Africa, in the Middle East, the United States of America and Europe He shares in this course the diverse corporate governance experiences encountered in all these conglomerates. Njeru hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in entrepreneurship at the same university.
